TEMECULA, CA – The Temecula Valley Unified School District’s 5th annual “Because Nice Matters in Temecula Week” kicks off on Monday, September 21st. “Because Nice Matters in Temecula Week” is observed on the last full week of September every year with activities at school campuses District-wide to prevent bullying and encourage kindness among Temecula students throughout the school year. Since inception, the City of Temecula has supported TVUSD in its student campaign; however, this year is more special than ever before! The concept of promoting kindness has officially spread Citywide with “Temecula Has Heart …Because Nice Matters,” a City initiative formed by Mayor Jeff Comerchero, adopted by the full City Council, and purposefully named in collaborative support of TVUSD’s student campaign, “Because Nice Matters.”
“The best example that our City and community can offer to our students about kindness is to lead by example, and that’s exactly what Temecula citizens and businesses have been embracing this year,” stated Temecula Mayor Comerchero referring to the overwhelming response by residents and businesses to participate in spreading kindness throughout Temecula as part of the 2015 initiative, “Temecula Has Heart …Because Nice Matters”. This week, the focus is on Temecula students and their “Because Nice Matters” campaign. “It is exceptionally heartwarming to see Temecula’s youth and students stand firmly together to oppose bullying and promote kindness,” added Mayor Comerchero.
The Temecula City Council will present a special Proclamation to TVUSD in recognition of “Because Nice Matters in Temecula Week” at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, September 22nd, starting at 7:00 p.m. at which time several student leaders are expected to speak about clubs and activities they represent that encourage kindness. In addition, a 10-foot mural of tiles hand-painted by students and other community members in the theme of kindness, intertwined with hearts and glass mosaics, will be unveiled at the City Council meeting. This unique mosaic mural has been created courtesy of Artist Troi O’Rourke of Barcelona Mosaics who has donated her artistic talent and time to piece together the artwork. Nearly all tiles, paints and materials as well as employee time, were donated in the spirit of kindness by Painted Earth. The mosaic mural will become a permanent public art piece at the Temecula Public Library as a meaningful reminder to be kind “Because Nice Matters”.
The public is welcome to attend the “Because Nice Matters” presentation on Tuesday, September 22nd, 7:oo p.m., at the Temecula City Council Meeting, City Hall, 41000 Main Street. All attendees are encouraged to wear purple, the signature color of TVUSD’s “Because Nice Matters” student campaign.
